Day 17: Bleaklow to Edale

A wet night but mostly light rain and slept well. Woken by heavy rain at 3.30. Early start this morning, packing up as much as possible before having to venture out
Made breakfast in the doorway of the tent - didn't want to be cooking outside and ate inside for once.
Then packed everything away, all cold and damp, and set off for our final 13 miles at 8 o'clock. Cool morning, but at least the rain had stopped.
And the cloud had lifted, so all looking good.
Over boggy Bleaklow, then descending. Temperature seems to be dropping and we're both cold. A long trudge  on paved path to Mill Hill, from where I am able to post previous day's blog. Meet woman out for a day walk. She is full of praise for our achievement. This is starting to feel good
Our destination has started to appear on the signs. Short sharp climb onto Kinder Scout. Initially into mist, which clears to reveal...
...fine views over a sunny Manchester.  Soon be home.
We descend via Jacob's Ladder and the temperature rises. The sun is now out, it's a great way to finish. The Edale valley is as idyllic as ever. We  are feeling quite elated and really enjoying the final miles.
On the path outside Edale we meet my mum walking the other way to meet us. Hugs all round. Then my dad.

We have finally finished, and it feels great. We are treated to a couple of pints in the Nags head and some food. Then a dash to get the train to Manchester, luckily it is running late. I want to be able to walk back to my home in the same way that I had left it over two weeks previously.
Concluding thoughts, and Simon's thoughts, to follow.

  1. Brilliant celebratory evening for our triumphant P/W pair at the Wine and Wallop last night.

Over a dozen jubilant followers gathered in wishing both Dave and Simon continued good health and happiness.

Many people, including myself, expressed their sadness in missing the opportunity to finally meet Hank29 and completing the circle of friendship/life! Where are you Hank?

I loved meeting you all and finally putting names to the faces that had posted messages on Dave’s Blog.

I loved meeting Dave’s parents, photographers of the comparison shots, and early P/W walkers in person.

I have realised that this was not only a journey for Dave and Simon but also a wonderful journey for me too.

Thank you, I will miss you all and especially your blog Dave xxx
